    Hi, bear with me as I explain my circumstance as a preamble to a question about this sprayer. I have a pressure washer but live in an Australian outback town where the town water supply is treated bore water. It's safe to drink but doesn't taste great so 96%of the townspeople use rainwater tanks for drinking water. This bore water is terrible for seals & hoses, I've already replaced my pressure washer hose once and the pressure washer gun once. Now I'm facing having to do it again as the hose blows out of the gun under pressure. I don't have a pressure washer supplier locally so replacement items have to be purchased by mail order with shipping costs added. If I were to purchase this sprayer for applying snow foam etc, how viable would it be to also attache an air compressor hose during use? Yes I realise that this would mean that the blow off valve would virtually be continually in use, my compressor runs off the vehicle battery but I do have a long air hose for the purposes of reaching a towed caravan or trailer. In other words, I would have the length to comfortably go around the car but, in your estimation is it intended for this purpose or just a cycle of pressuring up, spraying, pressuring up again, spraying again and so on as you have done in this video? I realise that it is just a schrader valve but my compressor hose clamps/locks on to these valves.

    Reducing size does not increase pressure, it decreases pressure due to more flow restriction

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav День тому

      If you flow the same amount of water from the source pressure will always increase when you reduce the size it goes through. For centuries this is how the hydraulic mining is done by taking a big creek and slowly decreasing the area and forcing it through a pipe that gets smaller and smaller creating a pressure stream enough to tear down mountains. Same goes for pressure washer nozzle you increase size the pressure decreases and allows more water flow. Exact opposite when you decrease size PSI increases and water flow decreases. Smaller size decreases water flow (GPM), but increase pressure (PSI).

    I had a CR spotless and used the conversion tube from that RV British guy. It exploded my tank and I’ve done without it now. Tempted to go DI again but instead my final rinse is with the foam cannon filled with ONR. It softens the water and allows me to leaf blow most the water off and then finish drying with bead maker and a MF drying towel. I honestly think this way is just fine and I don’t have to dick around with resin anymore

      So many way to do it there is no wrong way just the way that makes it most enjoyable for you. I tried the rv mods as well it didn’t blow up, but it was sending resin through my nozzles and clogging them up so went back to the cartridges.

Now these tank style is the same type of method, but they seal way better as they were designed for that purpose. I have seen no resin get through any that I have tried. At one point the shower setting on my garden hose sprayer would barely run because the holes are smaller than the resin. Was a pain to clean out.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav 21 годину тому

      That is tough you need the biggest one you can get to give plenty of cleaning time on the resin. I think a 4 foot tank would do best, but they are going to be $600 or reach out to Culligan or one of those companies to see if they will rent you one it is much cheaper at that ppm. Many at that ppm will run an RO system and store the water to be used later. Using gravity feed or a pump to deliver the clean water back through a DI system for the final clean.

    I recently started looking into ONR rinseless wash. My car is sitting outside all day collecting dust and road debris and birdpoops, in this case, is it still safe to use a microfiber towel or a sponge to wash it right away? Wouldn't it scratch the paint? Or should I rinse it down with a garden hose first?

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav 21 годину тому

      Always best to rinse down most will foam then rinse and then do the rinseless method. I would always do that unless you don’t have that ability or water restrictions. As long as you coat the surface well and don’t reuse the wash media you should be fine. I myself though would move on to the newer generation of Rinseless washes the technology has gotten so good and ONR is no longer even in the top 10. DIY detail is really good, ADD, Koch Chemie, etc.

    Unless running “open” to fill a tank / bladder, wouldn’t the actual gpm flowing through the DI tank be limited by the pressure washer pump or hose nozzle (if no pressure washer)? Example: with an active PW, only about 2gpm is going to flow through the tank. With a ryobi/etc, it’ll drop to about 1.5. Still a great test/video because the more flow the tank itself can output the better (to ensure it’s not causing a restriction), but just wanted to ask in case someone’s takeaway was they need crazy high gpm

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav 2 дні тому

      All depends on what you plan to do I always run tests at what the products states or at least 2gpm minimum. Griots stated their numbers were at 4gpm. I myself like some others use unrestricted garden hoses with high flow nozzles for the final rinse so I want a higher GPM. Some also like to use gas pressure washers and those mostly range in the 2.5 to 3.5 range. Your flow will always be reduced down to whatever the nozzle is so you would be correct that a Ryobi would pull much less. Some pressure washer companies always give a minimum input flow they would like to have and some they say they need basically double their output not sure why though. 2gpm pressure washer asking for 4gpm minimum input. Can’t remember which one it was though.

      20 gallons or so depending on your flow rate. It is recommended by manufacturers to run for a few minutes to make sure everything is flushed out correctly. Since this was at 4gpm maybe 2 or 3 minutes would be a better suggestion. I had always done 5 minutes, but that was mainly 2gpm flow rate so only 10 gallons. Most DI system instructions say 5 to 10 gallons for the first initial run to flush out manufacture debris and get the resin fully submerged and filtering.

    Hello Keav, I'm not getting anywhere close to that performance. Before embarking on a spotless system, I had my water tested, high chlorine and 185ppm. My setup = 3 stage x 20" Atlas Filtri - 1. Melt down Polypropylene sediment filter. 2. Carbon filter 5 micron 3. Columbian Bam Bam from your link. Started at 1ppm after maybe 12 washes + foaming, systems at 14ppm. That's practically 1ppm gain per wash. Was wondering if you tested other Bam Bam's for longevity? Almost forgot to mention the rep said the Bam Bam might not last long so he gave me Scale Amour (stage 3.) I guess he was right.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav 3 дні тому

      So you are only running 1 20 inch resin canister correct? What water flow are you running at and are you using it for the whole wash or just final rinse? Not so sure if it’s city water you would need a sediment filter of course depends you might need it. Just one 20 inch you would have to be at 2gpm or less to have enough cleaning time on the resin. Switching to a 1 micron carbon filter would pickup both chemical and sediment. Then you could add another resin filter to help with cleaning time to match the flow. if I’m getting 400 gallons at 50ppm which my water acts like 100ppm due to the chlorine. So if I say double to 200ppm equivalent then 200 gallons would be a possible expected amount. Not sure how much gallons you use, but typically if you use spotless water for a whole wash it would be between 15 and 20 gallons. At those rates your gallons usage is within I would expect at 180 to 240 gallons. Is this all being run through a pressure washer? Just trying to figure out the flow rate going through the filter. Usually when it rises fast like that is due to flow being too high for the amount of resin.

    The Clean Garage sell very similar looking DI Units that are made by On The Go LLC. I came across several car detailing companies and distributors offering these similar units at the time I was shopping around for my first DI system. The On The Go DI Units are by far the best choice as they offer better prices for everything (obviously, they are the source and should be honored as such), they come standard with GHT Inlet/Outlet connections, choices for standard/bypass units, size of unit/method of deionization and finally all they do is Portable Water Deionization/Softener Units. On The Go DI Tanks are the only DI systems for those who rate quality just as much as simplicity in their detailing arsenal

      On the go doesn’t make theirs as far as I know they just source them. They are made by Clack who also makes this DI unit for Griots. The head and tank are both Clack. The exact same size unit from On the go is $400+ which is the double standard one when this one is $300. You would need to buy 8 lbs of resin to get to the amount On The Go puts in theirs so probably about $50 to $75 worth of resin. They are all good and you can’t go wrong as they are all the same just different sizes. I think this Griots unit is the the best value at around $375 to be at 1/2 cubic foot. Like I said though either way you will have a great DI unit. Serv A Pure has the exact same ones as well like the Washpak 50 which is the same as the Clean Garage 50.

      @@CarsWithKeavperhaps semantics but while Clack is a mfr of the components (and a catalog of many other pieces), I don’t think consumers can buy direct from them, nor do I think Clack is actually making “kits” for any companies. I think Clack just has a catalog similar to Raybestos, and then you have someone like OTG that as you said sources all the components needed to create a “turn key” kit that’s then also sold to Adam’s and others as mentioned. Or you have someone like Serv a Pure which is a distributor/seller of Clack’s individual components to the business/consumer if needed. I’m not sure about Griot’s……it’s certainly possible they have a relationship direct with Clacks. But for Adams’ and some others, the tank label and customer service specifically points to OTG for support. Even Northern Tool sells the OTG kit now. (No, I don’t work for OTG lol)

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav 3 дні тому

      Yeah, they are all the same just like pressure washers lots of companies selling different ones, but only a few actual manufacturers of the pumps. Most of these are made by Clack. When you search around you for sure will see they are all the same head and tank just different sizes and colors. Obviously each company could be using different blends of resin to get the costs where they want. Serv A Pure has their 100 system as does Clean Garage. On the Go has theirs as well. It’s basically a one cubic foot tank which is twice a the size as this Griots one. 4k gallons is one heck of a claim when the other ones are saying half that. All depends on the water, flow rate and quality of resin. They could be running a 60/40 high grade blend of resin to get higher numbers as well. Some might be using regenerated resin to keep costs down. Griots says to run their at 4gpm which obviously mean the resin will wear out sooner. If you lower the flow you would extend the life. 1.8gpm to me is just too low a flow for a system of that size. I would rather run higher flow and change resin more often. Obviously if my water was much harder I would have to sacrifice flow to extend resin life and filter time as resin isn’t cheap.

Ideally I would like to use QDs with 3/4 NPTs for in and out to my Karcher cube so I can store the hoses on my cart when not in use. For convenience using the pressure washer while off works well, but deionized water is corrosive to open metals like brass and can leach metals from the internals of the pressure washer over time. I prefer myself to use it out of a garden hose just have to make sure you are not flowing too much water as it will not get cleaned enough to be spotless. I like using quick connects whenever I can on a mobile cart. If they are quality they won’t leak just have to make sure they have Teflon and torqued down good on the thread side.

When running mixed bed you have to change when the cation is depleted even though the anion is still good. That’s the reason there are 60/40 blends to combat that, but they are usually more expensive and not worth the price increase. Two Griots units for example is the same cubic foot as the big $600 On the Go cubic foot ones so equipment wise about the same money.
